Hearts are the standard HP for most characters, and can be picked up to gain health in most instances.
Epiphany introduces 1 new Heart pickup into the game.
Broken Heart
Broken Hearts are a special type of heart that is treated as a heart container, but once obtained, cannot be refilled or removed in any way, nor can they be replaced by other heart types, essentially permanently lowering the maximum amount of health the player can have. Epiphany introduces a pickup version of Broken Hearts, which grant a single Broken Heart when obtained. These can only be created by the 
Queen of Hearts? card and 
True Love.
